Will Apple Intelligence and advanced macOS features run on your model? Verify system requirements for Sequoia and Sonoma features.
macOS Sonoma & Sequoia Feature Support
| macOS Feature | Hardware Requirement | Status | Technical Details |
|---|---|---|---|
| Apple Intelligence (AI) | M1, M2, M3, M4 series chip or later | M-Series Only | Requires the unified memory bandwidth and neural engine cores of Apple Silicon. Not available on any Intel Macs. |
| iPhone Mirroring (Sequoia) | Apple Silicon or Intel Mac with T2 Security Chip | Some Intel Models | Intel laptops must have a T2 security chip (2018 or newer) and Bluetooth/Wi-Fi active. |
| Presenter Overlay (Video Calls) | Apple Silicon M-Series chip | M-Series Only | Uses system camera and neural cores to extract presenter silhouette over slide decks. |
| Game Mode (Sonoma / Sequoia) | Apple Silicon M-Series chip | M-Series Only | Prioritizes CPU and GPU resources for gaming, reducing background tasks and Bluetooth audio latency. |
| Safari Web Apps (Sonoma / Sequoia) | Any Mac running Sonoma or Sequoia | Fully Supported | Turns standard websites into app-like dock icons. Runs fully on both Intel and M-series. |

Feature Compatibility FAQs
Why doesn't my Intel Mac support Apple Intelligence? +
Apple Intelligence requires high-bandwidth memory access and high-performance neural engine cores. Intel processors lack the integrated neural hardware and unified memory architecture required to run these on-device models efficiently without causing severe system lag.
How do I know if my Intel Mac has a T2 Security Chip? +
Hold down the Option key and select the Apple menu -> 'System Information'. Select 'Controller' (or 'iBridge') on the sidebar. If you see 'Apple T2 Security Chip' listed, your machine is compatible with features like iPhone Mirroring and secure boot options.
Can I upgrade my Intel Mac's processor to Apple Silicon? +
No. The motherboard and chassis architectures are completely different. Apple Silicon is integrated into the logic board directly, requiring a full system replacement if you wish to move from Intel to M-series.
